Mum's birthday dinner, BBQ at Bev & Jo's, Crispys birthday dinner... 10:54AM
Once again I fall behind in the postings. My pace is slowing down, I am trying not to spend too much time on the computer at the moment. Its summer, its hot in my room during the day and theres plenty of other things to do. Anyway whats been going on?
Last Thursday was Waitangi day. I did nothing cause holidays mean nothing to me at the moment. On Friday I went to my aunties florist and sold her some greetings cards. I didn't make much money but it is no a small scale. It is a start. Mum called me on Friday asking if I wanted to go out for dinner (it was her Birthday on Wednesday). I txted back and said yes. Got no reply and realised I was cooking for Dan so cooked a massif meal of spagetti and meatballs (was good). Ate 3/4 before mum called up. We went out for dinner to Calizone with Tom. It was cool. We laughed at how stubborn and stupid we were as kids, how much of an arse Eddie was and how much hes not now (easy cause he wasn't there) and all the rest of the stupid stuff we've done. I had to admit to putting mums present (consisting of $30 of Whitcouls vouchers) thru the wash. They came out one big mess of paper which I had to straighten out and dry (thank God for the protective cardboard casing that died trying to save the vouchers). The girl at the counter was very understanding when I asked to exchange these tatty 100 year old vouchers for new ones. Actually she just smiled and said sure, she'd done the same thing before :)
After that Tom and I went out to discuss the furthering of the Bryant Dynasty. We went to Traffik (just on Kent on my way into town) which was almost empty but had a one man band playing pearl jam etc. It was the ideal atmosphere. We drank and talked and chatted to the bar people. We eventually headed into town and I ended up drinking too much. Felt a little like crap the next day.
Next day we went out to Bev & Jo's for a BBQ. It wasn't the best day for it but they have a kick arse BBQ (compared to my old one). It looks almost the same but with twice the cooking power (at least). They fried us up a feed then I had to head off to catch up with the Crispy One for his 27th birthday celebrations at the Lone Star.
The Lone Star was hot and noisy and it made me feel ill. I had to keep going outside and getting some fresh air till the beers I'd taken as a remedy kicked in. They were quite harsh until the end of the second when I started to feel better. I didn't eat anything there as I was still full from the BBQ and not feeling so well. It was great to catch up with everyone tho and to see a few more year of the dragons out there. The guys headed into town and I headed home to catch up on some well deserved sleep..
Bush fire on Mt Vic 11:03AM
Perihelion News Flash
Australia is not the only place suffering from bush fires. Large plumes of smoke were seen rising from the far end of Mt Vic on Sunday afternoon by local rollerblading dudes around Oriental parade. When asked what could be causing the smoke the reply was ""Far out dude, I thought it was just my wheels burning up...""
Sleeping on the beach at Princess bay for Crispys birthday 11:19AM
So Sunday I went for a rollerblade. It was a sweet day, except for all the smoke the wind blew thru the city. Luckily for Wellington the fire was out quickly enough and the wind blew all the smoke away. That evening I was wondering what to do with myself as Dan had taken the DVD player to Kats for the night when I get a call from Crispy and Tammy. They had just recently risen (at 4 in the afternoon) and were keen to go round to scorching bay for an ice cream and to enjoy the sun. I grabbed a few chairs and a towel and we headed off. We stopped at the chocolate fish for a $1.50 ice cream which was a most excellent size. Most worth its money. We then settled in on the far end of the beach (where the sun was going to stay the longest). Crispy and Tammy were looking quite sedentary so I left them and went in for a dip. It was cool to begin with but once you went under it was really nice. After that I came out and started to dry off in the sun. The sun quickly left us so we decided to grab some takeaways and follow it round to Princess bay.
30 mins later and we were sitting on the beach at Princess bay eating chinese. As we sat there Crispy and Tammy were discussing the idea of sleeping out on the beach one night. I said lets do it so we thought why not and headed home to get some gear.
Much later on we walked back onto the beach to find a nice flat spot up in the sandy tussocks. We lay out a number of blankets, put down some pillows and sleeping bags and pulled out the guitar to sing along to some tunes as the sun set out towards the South Island. It was truely peaceful (taking into consideration I can't head out terrible my own singing is) and as the stars came out we lay back content as you can ever be in life. This is truely what living is about. Even tho the stars are just a sprinkling of white spots on black they are the most amazing thing to look at. I think its the whole feeling of emenseness you get, especially when you realise they are actually great balls of burning hydrogen, bigger than our sun shinning millions of miles away.
The sky would make THE best projection screen the world has ever seen (ask me about how that can be accomplished, I have a plan, albeit a geeky one)...
So it finally came to bed time and none of us could close our eyes. There was just too much to see. We watched the satelites fly by and I spoted a flock of three of them in a triangle formation heading west. We saw a couple of shooting stars and we discussed the deeper issues in life.
Ok so it was the most relaxing night ever and the coolest experience but none of us actually slept that well. You can shift around until your body makes an imprint in the sand but as soon as you roll over that imprint acts against making the new position comfortable. The next morning at roughly 6am it started to get light and our closest neighbours rooster started to cock-a-doodle-doo. 45mins later we got up and headed back to town and the mundane way of life... But hey, Happy 27th Birthday Crispy (it was today) and what a way to wake up to it huh? Even tho you will be sound asleep in bed by now..
