I've been offline for a while, well semi-offline. I've been busy, with work, with planning my 30th and with building a new PC. The new PC was a bit of a mission but its finally there. I had fallen behind in knowledge of the hardware so there was a bit of a learning curve as I caught up and got it all going but it was worth it. I now know more...
So what is the number of the beast? Its an...
- AMD Athlon64 3500+ (2.2Ghz)
- Gigabyte AM2 motherboard.
- 2GB DDR2 (667Mhz) memory
- 320GB SATA II hard drive
- 256MB PCI-X graphics card (EN7300GS)
- Nice shiny silver case with a clear side
Ahhhh.... its all good. The case is so much better than my last one, not only does it look much cooler but it has a much better layout and is much easier to assemble bits into it. The cards in the PCI slots have clips instead of screws, the SATA II drive has much more sensible cables and is pointing out to the edge of the case so you can see jumpers and cables and easily add or remove (without pulling out over the motherboard). The drive also has plastic bits that clip on the side and slide into place, no more trying to get that screw in from the other side of the case. The CPU & fan is much quieter than my last PC and looking back I realise now that the power supply was half hanging over the CPU fan blocking air intake.
So now its all going. It starts up fast, everything is nice and clean. I've spent ages re-installing all my old applications. But now its running. I will be able to do development work on it again. All is good.
30 and beyond... 12:17AM
So hows the 30 thing treating me you ask? Not too bad. Before 30 everything was quiet. Nothing exciting was happening. Then I turned 30 and I met a whole lot of dodgy characters. They're making a movie of it I think so stay tuned. In fact I've been looking through some of the movies and they look quite funny. Amatuer but funny. So 30 is treating me ok. I had a good birthday thanks to all those who came along. I'm definitely starting to notice the wear and tear on the bod though, a few wrinkles here, a grey hair (or 10) there. It doesn't get any better I'm told..
