So we've moved house. Apart from the odd bit of damage and a flat tire it all went pretty well. Although I didn't realise we had quite so much stuff...

First thing to note. Buying a house is a very impersonal thing. I imagined meeting the people who owned it. Talking to them about what they had done with the place, its history. But no, its all lawyers and real estate agents. It sucks. The lawyer was good. I don't really like real estate agents. So we have now moved into our new house and apart from seeing two names on the tender document I don't know anything about the previous owners. Strange.

Secondly I thought it would be a big cost moving house. Buying a new fridge or dishwasher, paying for movers, lawyers, all the new things you need for the house like rubbish bins, door mats, light bulbs, etc. But it wasn't really that bad. We already had all the furniture and whiteware. The bank reimbursed us most of our lawyers costs and by moving all the small stuff by car and preparing the large stuff we kept the movers bill down to around $250. Infact with getting the bond back I think we might actually have some money left over.

So the move. Where are your brothers when you need them. There for every move my sister did but do a runner to the other side of the world when I need to move. Anyway, took Friday off and got the keys to the house around midday. Rob was off work so came and helped out which was a big help. The rain held off and we made some good progress. Friday night we went back to the Mt Vic house and stayed the night there.

Saturday we were up early for the movers (they arrived just after 8am) and we started moving the big stuff, the bookcases, couches, TV, table, fridge, etc. I had moved a lot of it downstairs to the garage so it was easy for them. Still they had to take the couches out through the back yard and managed to traipse mud all through the house. Luckily we had to get carpet cleaners in (it was in our agreement with the landlord). Saturday we realised we had a lot more stuff than we thought we did. We kept moving it but there kept being more. By 3pm we were down to cleaning the house and still had a car load or two left to go. We finally finished around 7pm and headed home for our first night in the new house.

Sunday we awoke and found we had a flat tire. There was a screw in the front wheel. We couldn't find the tools we needed so got a lift in with Manson to let the carpet cleaners in and to remove our final loads.

6pm Sunday and we were done. Finally moved into the new house. Its cold and uninsulated and theres boxes everywhere but it has a fire place which is cool.
