Outside in the sun after work... 11:00PM
Its outdoor Ultimate Frisbee season. Time to run around after work in the sun and feel the fresh air on your face. And its bloody awesome. Nothing else wakes you up like running your guts out or makes you feel better afterwards. But I'm behind the game on this one. I'm on a team a grade up from what I was previously playing and they all know a lot more than me. Most of my team mates have been playing for a number of years while I'm on about 9 months so I'm playing catch up. Luckily I've been doing a bit of exercise recently and the fitness is going up. Theres nothing like running around to make up for lack of experience or skill :)
But theres a thing I'm noticing in the game, its that split second of observing and then acting, that 500 milliseconds or so when you decide, shit, I better sprint after that and then you just miss it. After missing it I knew that I could have got it, if I'd just started earlier or run harder. That small amount of time makes all the difference. I'm starting to get the odd intercept now. The brain is kicking in earlier, its by-passing the smart part and sending me running, telling me to think about it later, and I'm making it there... sometimes.
The fitness must keep going up. Brother Eddie arrives in Wellington this Sunday after scoring a job in Hamiltron and his flight back from Ireland paid for. I think I see him for a day before he's off again. Rumour has it he's been getting unfit and has put on a bit of a belly. Might be a good time to challenge him to the run up Mt Vic I promised him. All good things come to you if you wait long enough.
Indoor soccer comes to an end tomorrow night. We've got two games in a row then off to the pub for a beer. My game there has been a bit below par recently. Too many things on at the moment and not enough time to focus on any one thing.
Social Networks currently occupy my mind. Facebook is facinating, not to use, but to look at how it works. So much could be improved upon yet it works so well. I want to design my own but I don't have the time...
