New Forest 9:33AM

I have been getting out and seeing England. Last week I was working in Leeds. One of my workmates lives nearby in Skipton, so I did an evening trip out there to have a run around on the Yorkshire moors (not being chased by hounds luckily). I disturbed a grouse hiding in the bracken so I got to see one of them close up for the first time. I managed to miss the last train back to Leeds, so had to fork out for a '38 taxi ride (oops!).

This weekend was a long one, so I went camping with some English friends in New Forest, near Southampton. It's a nature reserve and there are lots of wild horses roaming around in the forest and on the plains. On the Sunday we went cycling and it felt really good to be out of the city into the fresh air and exploring. I got a little sun and now have a pink nose. We hit some good weather over the weekend, with Friday peaking at around 29 degrees. I got home tonight after 3 days of feral camping - no washing or changing of clothes, to find that the boiler has stopped working, so no hot water apart from one of the showers. I was very much looking forward to a hot bath.

This week I am back in Leeds (and possibly next week too). Stage one of the two stages of my U.S. visa application has been approved, and now I have an appointment at the consulate on 23rd June to get the final paperwork done. If it all goes well I will have the visa in my hands by the end of June. Not a small job - more than 4 months, 80 pages of documents and $5000 in fees to achieve it. I hope it doesn't flop now!

I have a new extra flatmate. Isabelle has a new boyfriend who moves in tomorrow. Interestingly, a few weeks ago when I asked her about the new boy who had been hanging around "what is your new boyfriend's name?" she claimed that he wasn't a boyfriend... And now he is moving in. I hope it doesn't create any problems. He's ok but a bit boring and not particularly good on the dishes.

In interesting news - a small tornado hit Tutanekai street in Paraparaumu. It went past my sister's house and took out a bit of her back fence.

Sleepy time now.
