Free beer? 5:06AM
So here I am yet again sitting around work on a Friday waiting for others to finish work so I can go home then out to the pub. Everybody here has gone home hours ago. That's the usual form for this place. Still it means I have the room to myself, except for the odd cleaner passing through with a Hoover, (sorry, vacuum cleaner)
I'm sleeping on the floor at my friends again tonight. The other place I was crashing has been invaded by the relatives so I've been evicted for a week or so.
We were off to see a Trans Global Underground gig last night, well a subset of them apparently. Then when that was winding down we were planning to head off into the countryside for another event called Digital Disco. Where one of the godfathers of dance music was playing, Laurent Garnier.
But when we showed up at the first venue, I was a bit gutted to find it had been cancelled due to their sampler frying itself. We rang one of the people who was going straight to the next thing on a bus put on by the event organisers. They got the bus to change its route and swing by to pick us up. Off into the farmland we headed. Now despite the fact most locals think their countryside sucks, and hardly ever have anything positive to say about it. I think its quite cool. Its exactly what I expected of English countryside, and travelling out to this place in the setting sun on a hot summers day, it was quite frankly wicked. (Okay admittedly on a wet rainy cold dark winters day I think it would probably be a bit less fun..)
Anyway this dance party was being held at a converted farm buildings of a classic big country estate. It's been remodelled as a swanky catered events centre, with a cluster of arty businesses. Driving up the long hedged driveway, with statues and shaped bushes, to a beautiful old building to go to a dance party in converted stables was not what I was expecting for a Thursday night!. But it was an especially fine night all in all. After 5 hours of phat beats and jumping around it was back on the bus and back to my bit of floor by 3:30am.
I awoke this morning to my friend bringing me a big bowl of muesli topped with yoghurt and bananas.
P.S. Ash I'm interested in where your event is! Even though I'm not going to be there or even in the same hemisphere. Well unless you're turning on a bar-tab that is!
