The best things in life aren't things 12:25PM

Now I'm in London again. I've found a cheaper internet place. Its '1.50 per hour. Which is much cheaper than the '4.50 I paid for a pretty slow hour of job hunting yesterday in Cambridge.
So much for London being expensive!

So anyway I've had a reply back from the dude at the ski field. I'd written off a season working in the snow since I thought I was too late to get a visa. My own fault for being a bit slow and indecisive. So I've still got to have an interview for that one, so no chicken counting yet. Before I go I'd have to sort out a laptop too, otherwise I can see myself going mad. But do I embark on a 5 month spell of snow, being a ski bum, head back to NZ for the summer, or hang out here and try and get a job, and travel Europe for a bit. Crap.

Anyway reading the trillion page zone I see some of the quotes I put up have had replies.

'The best things in life aren't things'

That was one I stumbled across looking for a Hunter S. Thompson quote I think. (I brought the book in the end..'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'). I like the quote cos it came randomly at me, and since it reminds me that the best bits of life aren't tangible, physical things. This is especially important to me currently for two reasons, firstly I've got very few items to my name at the moment, and I'm always conscious of what they are, since I have to carry them around and look after them constantly. But at the same time there is detachment that if it all got nicked I'd still be here. Secondly I keep getting back rolls of film that I'm disappointed with. Mostly since I remember the subject so much more vividly than the photo captures. Perfect example was a castle on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland. I turned up to this backpackers and there was one other person there, so I went for ride into the nearby town. Before they built the road bridge over to the island of Skye this was a major ferry town. Now it still has the ferry, but now its basically deserted. So I ended up in the beautiful gardens of the local castle. The sun was setting and the castle (ruined) was so ridiculously pretty, you could feel the history and I felt totally overwhelmed. (And I'd seen a few castles in the previous weeks!) The gardens were well tended in a rambling sort of way and I wandered around till it was too dark, and I started having issues seeing. In fact the only thing that pissed me off was that I was there alone, and there was nobody to share it with. Although maybe that's what made it so special?

To cut a long story short the photos were crap. And just served to remind me that you can't take some things with you, they wear out and break and get lost, or don't even come close to representing the feeling you had when you were there.

Anyways Ash the trillion page zone is a rocking idea! I remember you explaining that once over lunch in the park, probably about a year ago now.
So its come into being.
