I think that if you help others before helping yourself then when you need help, others will help you.... kinda like a karma thing
But, if you only help yourself, when it comes to the time when, for some reason, the help you need is out of reach of yourself, nobody will be there to help you. And why should they help you, you are selfish.
See, if everyone helped other before themselves you would not need to help yourself because everyone would be helping you... wouldn't the world be a much better place.
