Mt Mathews... 8:57PM
Had a pretty good weekend. Brother Tom organised a trip up Mt Mathews on Saturday. Its so close (drive through Wainui (quickly)) and you're there and yet I'd never been.
We got up to an early start, heading out of Wellington at 6:30am. Its quite a long walk to the top and back, usually 2 days but can be done in 1 so we wanted to get going early. It was Tom, Ed, one of Tom's mates, Al and I and we set off at a furious pace. We were at the first saddle by 11:00 eating lunch and there and back again by 12:30. Al set a pretty fast pace up the hill but by the saddle his calves were cramping up so we left him to wonder down while Eddie lead the charge to the top. There had been a lot of slips up there from floods and lots of gravel all over the valley floors. We got lost twice, infuriatingly the second time was 20mins from the end and we walked 20mins up a fucking hill before turning around. Yeah we powered out as fast as we came in. Eddie and Al ran the last 40mins out. We were all hurting but none of us wanted to be the weakest link. Saw Manson & Wendy in there as we were walking out. Had a bit of a head ache by the end but not too sore today which is good. Didn't feel like walking around much today though funnily enough.
Heading round to Martins to pick up the first 4 episodes of the next Lost season. Also Ong bak and War of the Worlds.
