Sorry this will be a quick entry this time. Honest.
Friday I went down to London with Eric and Sarah to meet a friend of Eric's that I've meet a few times before.
It was one of those strange London visits I've done a couple of times before. We leapt on the train in Cambridge. It was an express. I think mentioned before just how stupidly fast they go. Trains going the other way make the most massive noise as they pass you, and it always gives me the fright of my life when I'm sitting backwards, as they sneak up pretty quick. We got to London and straight through Kings Cross station to the tube. Through the tube, out onto the street and about 100m to a pub. Drank and played pool till closing. Back onto the tube. Back to the station and back to Cambridge.
Really it could have been any bar in any city in the world.
That's something weird about the tube, (and the subway in NY). You really get quite disorientated. You disappear into the ground. Go down 3 or 4 stories, get on a train, hurtle through a small tube for an unknown distance in basically any direction. Then pop out of the ground again in an entirely new set of streets. Like you've been teleported there.
I always find it fun to walk between stops. Since you so often find they are really very close, and in a direction you never thought possible. It also disproves my theory that I had when I was a kid (15 years before that movie I may add). Where I used to think the entire world was just a big movie set and it was full of actors. I was the only one who had no idea. The tube would be perfect for this since they could change the 'set' while you went around in circles under ground. Still I'll foil them by walking!
