jobs and brain exercise 9:32AM

So jobs and stuff.

'Work/Life Balance' a buzzword you might have heard before? Well for me it works like this: I'd loved working at the ski resort, the bike shop, delivering pizzas, and well most of the jobs I had in the UK. Why? Well because put straight it was a 9-5 job. I went home at 5.. and had nothing to do except enjoy my life.

To do well at most of those jobs was easy. For example at the ski field if you turned up on time, were nice to the punters getting on your lift, shovelled a bit of snow and didn't kill anybody you were a model employee. Everybody was happy.

So whats the problem? Well two things:

One: the less responsibility you have with a job, generally the less you get paid.

Two: generally they tend to exercise your brain less.

I want new things to do, new things to learn, new things to exercise my brain.

So if I could do what I currently do and then go home and just forget the whole thing. In fact like working at the resort there was no way I could take my work home with me! Well okay I tried ' we had to study for an oral test from the state lift inspector. So I took home our notes, and read them from cover to cover. (To much mockery from my roommates!). But the thing was I wanted to know everything about the lift, I used to always have questions for the mechanics when they came around the lift. I spent hours chatting to the dude who came to update the firmware on the lifts computer. I just couldn't do only what they expected, I wanted a challenge.

Theres no way I can have a job that i really enjoy, that stimulates me, that I can't take home.

So until I work out what I want to do when I grow up I'll probably spend a lot of time navel gazing ..

So hope that explains my throwaway comment Farmgirl?
