Another year gone.

On Tuesday flew down to Christchurch, meeting up with Jax and Brooke who had driven down on Monday. They'd scored a couple of rooms in a hotel in Lyttelton.. Headed out dinner at the Volcano caf', where they served nice large servings of mexician style food. Then it was on to the Wunder Bar. Which not only had the wicked theme of old sixties and seventies mall d'cor, but a view of the sunset over the harbour. (They also played a pretty diverse selection of music from Ramstien style German heavy metal, to Johnny Cash. All good for change!)

Calm, still and very warm weather

Next day after some brunch in Sumner, a drive over the Port hills and some power shopping back in Christchurch it was off to the supermarket to stock up for the trip.

Weather still hot sunny with no clouds.

Spent new years at Alpine Unity (almost to Arthur's Pass in the Alps at Flock Hill Station). Lots of excellent live acts and some good DJs, although a little less organised than the Gathering, with acts being moved form tent to tent at the last minute, and a few technical issues.. but still setting up 100+ live DJs and acts in paddock you can expect a few issues I suppose!

Weather was very sunny with no clouds. Light wind and cool at night. Swimming in lake. Too hot to sit in sun.

Stayed there for two nights, and two days. Then it was off over Arthur's Pass, across the specially cool new bridge, and Lake Brunner on the west coast.

Weather still hot and sunny. Much paddling around in lakes and rivers. Thank god for air con in Jax car!

Then over Lewis pass and back to Hamner Springs via the inland west coast road and Reefton. Weather so hot the thermal pools were only just looking appealing in the heat at about 9pm. Unfortunately they shut at 9pm! Nice one.

Weather still stinky hot and pumping.

Back to Christchurch. Managed to stumble across a mini heat wave, 40C apparently.. and making it feel every like a proper summer holiday, although some what sapping energy wise!
