Crispy apple in the big apple 4:04PM

I don't know why New York is called the big apple yet, but that's where I am, so I'm sure the answer will come to me soon. I was successful in catching a plane this time, so I didn't repeat my failed attempt to get to Prague. I have managed to get a great deal - Hotel is only four blocks from Times Square, which is where the customer is. It was quite cheap on New York terms, and has ALMOST all the normal facilities. I have wireless broadband in my room, but no laundry service. Priorities?!?

I like it here already, even though it's been cold and damp most of the time. Yesterday it snowed, but none of the snow actually stuck to the ground. The buildings look cool when they are all lit but dissappear off into low cloud. Like a sci fi movie.

I had dinner in an asian restaurant on Times Square called "Ruby Foo's", which is meant to be quite famous. It was really quite good food considering it's now a tourist attraction. I had the best Kung Po Chicken I've had for years. I found a great organic food shop a few blocks away, and spent a few hours there tonight, like a kid in a toy shop. The food here is certainly much better than DC, where everything was southern fried.

The BRCo office is across the road from the public library, which I recognise from that recent hollywood movie where the northern hemisphere gets a sudden ice age.

I am on the hunt for a digital camera because the prices are so much better than London - in many cases the prices are as much as half! On top of that, it is sale time, so there are even better bargains to be found. Problems might come in the form of 110v chargers though, and lack of international warranty.

My plan for the weekend is to go up the Empire state building, look at ground zero, and if I can find out how, check out the Statue of Liberty.
