SA update numero uno. 5:59AM
Okay I will spare you the details, but I find myself in Santiago, Chile. Its late, the only other time, other than very early in the mornings (Sifty? Early mornings? Yeah right!) I seem to be able to access my work emails, and any New Zealand sites at all, is late at night! So here i am, slightly worse for wear, at 2am.
Anyway very quickly - siftys South American observations today:
1. When typing into Word, on a PC, with spanish set as the default language very few words don't appear with a red line under them!
2. I have discoverd perhaps the worst way to pay bus drivers : 'Circuit theory'.
So over the last few years as a consultant I've seen a few KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) used by businesses to gauge the performance of their staff ' number of things entered per day, number of queries resolved, number of logins, etc.. But the way they apparently pay the bus drivers in Santiago takes the cake. Apparently they are all paid by the number of circuits of their route they complete in a shift!
This kinda makes sense since they all drive like freakin maniacs! They open the doors before you get to a stop - Not just a few meters, but about kilometer before! While they are in trafffic, and there are still cars between the bus and the kerb!
As Matty D pointed out the only worse way to pay your drivers would be on the highest average speed over their shift! Which is basically what they are saying anyway.
3. Never play a drinking game in Spanish when you can't really speak the language!
